HACO exists to ensure that no member of our community faces the loss of a loved one alone or without the means for a dignified burial. Built from scratch on the belief that action matters more than words, HACO is a self-sustainable, volunteer-powered organisation that unites community members to collectively face adversity — with zero membership, zero fees, zero enrolments, and zero barriers. We serve anyone and everyone.

No government funding. No corporate sponsors. Just community.

Shrouds & Kafan reserve

Burial shrouds maintained ready for community use

A complete Kafan package contains the shroud and all items placed in the grave at the time of burial. HACO maintains a reserve of these packages so a family can receive one immediately, without delay, in their hour of need.

Become a Kafan reserve host

We’re looking for community members in Melbourne’s North, South and East to host a small Kafan reserve at home — up to three packages — so families across Melbourne can be reached quickly when needed.

Stock up to three Kafan packages at home, kept ready and undisturbed.

When called, hand over the package to the deceased’s family member.

In rare cases, deliver the package to the family directly.

Werribee and Truganina are fully utilised. A grave secured today becomes a place of rest for a family in their hardest hour — sadaqah jariyah, ongoing charity that lasts beyond a lifetime.
